A wider, sturdier kickstand fixes one of the original Switch’s most annoying design flaws, the improved speakers make audio noticeably fuller without headphones, and battery life edges out the standard model too.

It’s an easy recommendation for anyone buying their first Switch, since the price difference over the base model is modest compared to how much time gets spent looking directly at that screen. The value proposition is murkier for existing Switch owners: the internals and processing power are unchanged, so games don’t run any faster or look better in docked TV mode, meaning it’s a real upgrade only for people who actually use handheld and tabletop modes regularly. For everyone else already happy on a TV, it’s a nice-to-have rather than a must-have.
